Vice Presidential Candidate Number 3 and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md responding to President Joko Widodo’s statement (Jokowi) who said the third presidential election debate was filled with personal attacks. Mahfud did not agree with that.
“Yes, maybe according to the President’s assessment. In my opinion, not,” said Mahfud to journalists at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (9/1/2024).
Mahfud then took the example of requests for defense data to be opened, which he said were state secrets. Mahfud believes that the things that must be kept secret are intelligence data and those related to attack strategies.
“For example, state secrets, what state secrets must be revealed. Not There are state secrets that are kept secret. For example, state secrets include intelligence and attack strategies. If we talk about the budget, if the budget is that much, the situation thingumajigThat’s how it is, it’s not a secret. Not ada, not “There are things from yesterday that must be kept secret, that’s the question,” he said.
Mahfud then mentioned that he had served as Minister of Defense. He believes that related to defense equipment and the budget cannot be discussed in a closed room.
“As for me, I’m also a former Minister of Defense. Which ones are secret? I know which laws are (about) secret (state data). Not some of these questions must reveal state secrets. It can be opened to the public because it is not a matter of defense strategy. That’s about defense equipment. It can’t be discussed in a closed room. If it’s in a closed room it’s called talknot a debate,” he said.
Previously, President Jokowi spoke about defense data which was touched on in the third debate on the 2024 presidential election. Jokowi said that not all defense data could be opened.
“Those related to defense, those related to state security, those related to defense equipment, there are things that can be disclosed, but there are many things that we have to keep secret,” said Jokowi during his working visit to Serang, Banten, Monday (8/1).
Jokowi emphasized that defense data is related to the country’s grand strategy. He then said that not everything could be opened like a grocery store.
“Because this concerns the country’s big strategy, we can’t open everything like grocery stores, we can’t,” he said.
