Rovaniemi, Finland is the region known worldwide as the official birthplace of Santa Claus. The region is also the capital of Finland’s northernmost province, Lapland, and the southernmost, Peropojola, and is one of the country’s most important tourist cities. Santa Claus Village and Santapark Arctic World in the Arctic Circle attract many tourists.

Santa’s office and post office are inside Santa Park. After paying an entrance fee to enter the park, you can visit Santa Claus’ office and take pictures with him for free. Postcards can also be sent from the post office here.

This Christmas theme park was opened on November 28, 1998. Shaped to resemble Santa Claus’s grotto in the Arctic Circle, the park is open to visitors in summer from mid-June to the first week of August and in winter from late November to early January. It is located approximately 9 km northeast of Rovaniemi and approximately 2 km from Rovaniemi Airport.

The Arctic Circle passes through Rovaniemi. Here it is clearly marked. The Arctic Circle is the circle of latitude 66°33′45.9″ north of the equator. This line marked with a white line is one of the main tourist attractions here. In the Arctic Circle region, reindeer herding can be done without prior booking. In addition, you can meet the animals you heard about in the stories, such as Siberian huskies, llamas, reindeer and alpacas. Rovaniemi also hosted the 2021 Arctic World Rally Championship, the first WRC event held inside the Arctic Circle.

Another phenomenon that attracts many tourists to this region is the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. This spectacular sight can be seen up to 200 times a year in Finnish Lapland.

Jatkankintila Bridge over the Kemijoki River, Arctic Science Museum on the banks of the Aunasjoki River, Rovaniemi City Hall, Lapia Hall and Aunasvara Ski Center are also places to visit here.

Rovaniemi Airport is located approximately 10 km north of Rovaniemi city center and is the third busiest airport in Finland after Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and Oulu Airport. The airport’s busiest time is during the Christmas and New Year season.
