Brussels Region’s State Secretary Vows to Maintain Export Subsidies Pending Reform

The Brussels Region still wants to keep the export subsidies, pending a reform of the system. State Secretary for Foreign Trade Ans Persoons (Vooruit.brussels) made this known in the Brussels Parliament on Monday.

Persoons will soon release 1.5 million euros for export subsidies. That money must be used in the short term so that the subsidies remain intact until a new export support system is in place, she announced. According to the State Secretary, consultations are currently underway with the business community about the latter.

The Brussels employers’ organization BECI sounded the alarm a few weeks ago when the government announced that it would end export subsidies in 2024. Small and medium-sized enterprises in particular would need the support to tap into foreign markets.
