The ministry explains: the government does everything to protect families and takes the most decisive action against consumer deception, thus also preventing families from being harmed, especially in this difficult economic situation. 2023 was the year of breaking inflation, they remind.
The government realized in time that decisive and effective steps are needed to curb the prices that have run wild due to the war, sanctions and price speculation by multinationals. Thanks to effective measures, the government reduced inflation to single digits by October, which decreased even further to 7.9 percent by November, and was able to decrease to a level of around 6 percent in December.
After the inflation has been broken down, steps to start growth are increasingly coming to the fore
– emphasizes the ministry. The government’s goal is to restore economic growth in 2024 and to grow the economy again dynamically, by 4 percent. To this end, it increases consumption by gradually removing the precautionary motive and strengthening confidence, keeps the investment rate above 25 percent and further increases labor market activity.
In recent months, the phenomenon that parallel to the unchanged or even rising prices of certain products, the quantity of the product has received special attention in many countries. The result of this deceptive practice is that consumers get less for their money from the purchased products than before.
The new measure adopted by the government promotes a more careful and conscious purchase decision by consumers by requiring food retailers with a turnover of more than HUF 1 billion to draw customers’ attention to the fact that the packaging of the pre-packaged products sold by them has become smaller compared to what was used before – highlights the department.
