Pro-Palestinian Demonstrators Block New York Bridges in Solidarity with Palestine

Dozens of demonstrators block bridges in New York in solidarity with Palestine

Dozens of pro-Palestinian demonstrators closed three vital bridges and a tunnel linking Manhattan to the rest of New York and its surrounding areas on Monday, in a coordinated move in solidarity with Palestine and in protest against the Israeli aggression against Gaza.

New York has witnessed dozens of both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel protests, since the start of the Al-Aqsa flood battle on October 7, and the escalation of the Israeli aggression against Gaza.

On Monday, demonstrators tied themselves to tires, chairs, and to each other on the Brooklyn Bridge, which connects the area of the same name to the financial district in Manhattan.

“These demonstrations are important because we need a ceasefire,” said protester Olivia Levine (31 years old), who works as an actor and writer. “It is important to disrupt daily activities to show how important this is and to end the blockade in Gaza.”

Dozens of police, some carrying nail cutters and white plastic cable ties, surrounded a group of protesters lined up on the bridge.

A crowd of people who gathered to support the group that was surrounded on the Brooklyn Bridge chanted, “Free, free Palestine.”

Similar movements were organized on the Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges, which connect Manhattan Island to Brooklyn.

At a time when regional and international voices are rising, rejecting Israel’s plans to displace the people of Gaza, the Israeli occupation state continues its genocidal war, which exacerbates the suffering of the residents of the Gaza Strip. The Israeli air and ground bombardment continues, especially targeting places of displacement and shelter, while the Palestinian resistance confronts the Israeli forces in various areas of progress. And behind the lines of the occupying army.

Since October 7, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, which as of Sunday left 22,835 dead, 58,416 wounded, massive infrastructure destruction, and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
