Swiss Boss of Microsoft: Swiss Companies Leading in AI Technologies and Microsoft Services

According to the Swiss boss of Microsoft, Swiss companies have taken a pioneering role in new technologies such as artificial intelligence. Switzerland is one of the first countries where AI services such as those from OpenAI are fully available. That’s why the country plays an important role for the US company, as Catrin Hinkel said in an interview with ‘NZZ on Sunday’ said.

“When I took over the role as country manager in May 2021, we only had two data centers in Switzerland. We now have four fully developed data centers with the latest AI technologies,” said Hinkel in the interview. According to her, Microsoft has 20,000 corporate customers in Switzerland who use cloud services from local data centers.

A good 100 corporate customers and around 100 startups are already using AI services, including the insurers Mobiliar and Helvetia, as Hinkel told ‘NZZ am Sonntag’. “Balgrist University Hospital, Adecco and Vontobel are also among our customers in the field of AI.”

Companies were able to use Copilot for Microsoft 365 starting last fall through an early access program. The company has been offering the AI assistant to all business customers since November and “a rapidly increasing number” of them are using it, said the country manager, without giving specific figures.
