NEW YORK — With a new year comes new goals and intentions, and while they may be easy to set, they can be difficult to maintain. A study reveals that where you live can have a real impact on whether or not you achieve your goals.
WalletHub compared more than 182 cities in the United States to determine which locations are most likely to meet their resolutions by 2024. The ranking was determined by analyzing 57 metrics, from exercise opportunities to income growth and employment prospects.
It turns out that two cities in the tri-state area are among the 20 worst for keeping New Year’s resolutions.
Newark, New Jersey, came in last, at number 182. That is, WalletHub ranked it as the worst city to fulfill resolutions. The dismal overall ranking is due to Newark’s position in the individual categories:

When it comes to WalletHub metrics, Newark ranks among a few, including being the city with the fifth highest percentage of adults who do not exercise, the city with the second lowest median annual income, the city with the second highest unemployment rate, and the city with the third Fewer acres of green space per capita. These characteristics, according to WalleHub rankinglead to Newark being ranked as the worst city to keep New Year’s resolutions.
Meanwhile, Bridgeport, Connecticut, ranks No. 166 out of 182, meaning it ranks No. 17 among the worst cities for making New Year’s resolutions. The overall ranking is due to Bridgeport’s placement in the following individual categories:
