Liège Divers’ Human Remains Found in Eau d’Heure Lakes After Tragic Accident

The human remains recently discovered in the Eau d’Heure lakes are indeed those of the two Liège divers who went missing after an evening dive at the Plate Taille site in Froidchapelle (Hainaut). The Charleroi public prosecutor’s office announced this on Monday afternoon. The two men are said to have become trapped in an underwater turbine.

The two divers, born in 1964 and 1977 and from the Liège region, went missing after an evening dive on Thursday around 5 p.m. at the Plate Taille site, a place not at all intended for such an activity. The son of one of the divers alerted the authorities, worried because he no longer had any news from his father. He went to the spot himself and discovered his father’s parked vehicle. The diving equipment was no longer present.

The searches, which started on Thursday evening with the support of Civil Protection divers, led to the discovery of diving equipment belonging to two different people on Friday evening. Search operations resumed on Saturday morning, ultimately leading to the discovery of human remains. The Charleroi public prosecutor’s office now confirms that investigations have shown that the human remains belong to the two divers who went missing.
