More than 2/3 of the passengers from and to Sofia Airport will go through the terminals more quickly after our country’s entry into Schengen from March 31. Jesus Cabayero, CEO of SOF Connect – the company-operator of the capital’s airport, announced this to Sega.
The opening of corridors for the free passage of citizens from Schengen countries at Sofia Airport is already prepared for easy implementation overnight, Caballero said. “Actually, we have been ready for a long time, as we passed several successful inspections by the EU, which also contributed to Bulgaria’s acceptance into Schengen,” he added.
The rules for allocating flights at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will be different from the current ones, explains the CEO of SOF Connect. In this regard, an information campaign will be carried out together with the airlines in order to minimize the number of passengers going to the wrong terminal.
SOF Connect presented for “Now” in detail how to pass through Sofia Airport from March 31:
• A Bulgarian flying to a Schengen country
1) Goes to the baggage registration desk (check-in);
2) Proceeds through the boarding pass check point before the security check;
3) Passes the security check;
4) Proceeds to exit to take to the aircraft.
• A Bulgarian arriving from a Schengen country
Upon arrival, proceed to the baggage claim area without going through passport control.
• A Bulgarian flying to a non-Schengen country
1) Go to the baggage registration desk (check-in);
2) Proceed to the boarding pass check point before the security check;
3) Passes the security check;
4) Passes through passport control;
5) Proceed to exit to take to the aircraft.
• A Bulgarian arriving from a non-Schengen country
1) Upon arrival proceed first to passport control and then to the baggage claim area.
For passengers flying to/from Schengen countries, the journey through the airport will be shortened as they will not go through passport control. For passengers flying to/from non-Schengen countries, travel through the airport will be as it is now. Despite the faster passage through the terminals, Jesus Cabayero advises all travelers to be at Sofia airport at least 2 hours before their flight.
