RoyaltyBritish Prince Harry (39) does not appear in a new book about the most impressive alumni of the Sandhurst school for military forces. That is quite embarrassing, considering that as a British prince he also attended the same school and even went to the front twice.
The book ‘They Also Served’ by author Vaughan Kent-Payne presents the reader with a top 200 of the most memorable or impressive alumni of the Sandhurst academy. Even singer James Blunt appears, but Prince Harry is nowhere to be found. Despite the fact that, besides Prince Andrew, he is the only living British prince who has ever performed active military service on the front lines.
Harry’s embarrassing absence comes exactly a year after he made particularly sensitive statements about his military service in his book ‘Reserve’. For example, he revealed that he shot twenty-five Taliban fighters during his years of service, while mentioning your so-called ‘kill count’ is absolutely not done in the army. Harry also mentioned that he saw those people more as “chess pieces on a board”, not as people.
“Not surprising”
According to British Colonel Richard Kemp, it is no surprise that Harry is not in the book. “I completely understand why he is not included,” said a response to the ‘Daily Mail’, I would probably have included him myself, for the sake of completeness. But it’s not like he really did anything special or admirable at the time. So I am personally not disappointed that it has been overlooked, but I understand that some people have a problem with it.”
“He did indeed say offensive things,” Kemp continues. “He claimed that the military taught him to ‘see the enemy as inhuman.’ But that’s not true, that’s not what we were taught. Those statements have overshadowed much of what he did for the military. And I suspect that his recent troubles with the British royal family were the deciding factor in not including him in the book.”
