A water leak was recorded this Monday morning (8) on a section of Avenida Oceânica, in front of Clube Espanhol, in Barra. Since early morning, water invaded the local bike path and part of the public road. Although the leak occurred in front of the club, the problem would be in the public piping structure at the site, where a box for the 2024 Carnival in Salvador is being assembled.
That is, at least, what the construction workers claim. “With the work here, they are working to assemble the cabin, but without touching the pipes or breaking things. In the middle of this, the glue on the pipe came loose due to the force of the water and started to leak. But they are already working to fix it” , says the employee who prefers not to identify himself.
At 9am on Monday, the leak was still occurring at the site. According to other workers at the site, the problem would have started during the night. “When I arrived, at 7am, it was already leaking. I asked whoever was there before and they said it had been coming since yesterday evening and the people came to fix it. It’s not easy to seal everything, but there was more water earlier there and already They managed to solve most of it. Soon, for everything”, guarantees another employee there.
Agents from Embasa, which was contacted by the report, are already working on site to resolve the problem. In a statement, the company informed that a team has already started the leak correction service in a section of the water distribution network. The maintenance is expected to be completed in the early afternoon of this Monday, and the service will not affect the water supply in the region.
The Salvador Urban Development Secretariat (Sedur) was also contacted to inform whether it supervises the work and has information on what could have caused the problem. In response, he ruled out that the leak was linked to the assembly of the cabin. “During the inspection, it was found that the water leak in the Ondina region was not caused by the assembly of the box structures. The agency continues to carry out inspections, daily, in the Carnival circuits to guarantee the safety and order of the city”, states the ministry .
While the problem continues, those who pass by the area complain about the risk that the water on the bike path poses. “It’s a risk, for sure. I saw it at a speed there and, when I saw it, I immediately braked. So much water on the bike path could make someone take a bad fall and, if they don’t have protective equipment, they run a serious risk of getting hurt. hurt”, says Hélio Santos, 48 years old, a cyclist who passed by the scene.
A resident of the region, who prefers not to be identified, says she almost had an accident there while walking. “They placed three pieces of wood to avoid stepping on all that water there and, trying to get through, I almost fell. That’s a danger, especially because people are going for a walk or running in the street to get out of the water and could get run over”, he complains. she.
The structure being assembled at the location where the leak occurred will be the Brahma Cabin at Carnival 2024. When contacted, Brahma detailed that the leak occurred in an Embasa water meter and that the equipment has already been replaced, resolving the problem.
