Kochi High Court Grants Anticipatory Bail to Actor Suresh Gopi in Journalist Insult Case

Kochi: The High Court granted anticipatory bail to actor and former MP Suresh Gopi in the case of insulting a journalist. The police were instructed to release him on bail if he is arrested. The government informed the court that there is no situation for arrest at present. The court had directed the government to state its position on the petition. After the questioning, Suresh Gopi approached the High Court after the FIR was amended by adding a serious section.

It was alleged in the anticipatory bail application that the cause of the case was political enmity for leading a rally against the government on the Karuvannur issue. According to the petition, the journalist who blocked the way while returning from the program was only transferred and was not misbehaved. The Kozhikode Police had filed a charge sheet in the case.

On October 27, Suresh Gopi was present at Nadakav police station in the incident where he touched the journalist’s body while talking to journalists at a private hotel in the city. The police examined the video clips of the incident and took the statements of 17 journalists. The statements of the employees and security personnel of the private hotel were also recorded.
