Under the pseudonym “n1nj4sec”, Nicolas Verdier is a hacker capable of penetrating poorly protected computer systems. However, he is not a pirate. This father preferred to put his know-how to the service of web security. In the evening, once his three children have gone to bed, Nicolas Verdier, an IT expert by day, puts on his ethical hacker costume. For hours, he analyzes websites to find security vulnerabilities, bugs that allow hackers to steal online data.
“The reward depends on the criticality of the bug”
Once the bug is identified, Nicolas Verdier reports it to the company to obtain a reward. He explains that he received a reward of 50 euros to 35,000 euros. “The reward depends on the criticality of the bug that was found”, he explains. There are more and more bounties, because the threat is very real. The University Hospitals of Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) and Corbeil-Essonnes (Essonne), the company Thales and Vinted have all been victims of data-stealing cybercriminals.
