It already looks like we live in a cat house. How else to explain the completely absurd situation that has now appeared in all its glory. In past years, Czechs were motivated and persuaded in various ways to purchase an economical source of heating their homes, especially a heat pump. Everything got even stronger last year, when it became clear that there could also be problems with the supply or prices of gas, which until now had dominantly heated family houses.
They will pay the most of all
In the case of the heat pump, the thinking was simple. The rather high acquisition costs were to be recouped over time through savings in energy consumption itself. This is because it is a very efficient heating source that does not consume so much. Of course, everything would work out if electricity prices remained the same or similar for everyone.
But that didn’t happen. As the experts have now shown in a number of examples, it is the people who have installed a heat pump who will pay the most for the price of electricity starting in the new year. This is due to the decision of the Energy Regulatory Office to increase the regulated component of electricity by 70%.
However, this component forms a different part of the final price for different tariffs. For most households with old heating methods, this is about a quarter today. But it is precisely the tariffs intended for heat pumps where this component makes up the largest part.
This is the D57d distribution rate, where most electricity suppliers will increase the regulated component by more than one hundred percent. As for the dominant supplier ČEZ, which is also paradoxically majority-owned by the state, there it will even be by 143%. People thus pay an additional 250 CZK for each megawatt-hour of electricity taken.

It stopped working completely
However, that is not all. The highest increase in the payment for the circuit breaker occurs in tariffs with a heat pump. This is an increase of a full 15%, whereas in other cases it is an average of about two percent.
“When I saw the new rates I thought it was some nonsense. That someone wants to cheat on me. So I called ČEZ, where they confirmed everything to me with icy calmness,” says Mr. Aleš Doležal, who paid over 500,000 crowns for the heat pump and its installation last year, even after taking into account the subsidy.
But now it’s over. “I did the math and normally at today’s prices it would pay to heat with an old gas boiler. But I can’t do that, because it’s prohibited in the terms of the subsidy. I would have to return her” said Doležal, a highly dissatisfied citizen. He lives in an older house, in which, moreover, the advantage of a heat pump is not clear. However, with the new electricity prices, it is clearly disadvantageous.

So, if we sum it up, we will find that the people here have been screwed in a big way. Many have succumbed to the belief that they cannot do without a heat pump in the future, so they invested considerable sums. At the very least, they should have saved on energy, so that the investment would have returned to them in some 10 to 15 years. But now they find out that using this heating source will be even more expensive than with a regular gas boiler. They will do it twice.
