“I always feel like I’m going to become a DNP.”
Alvark Tokyo won the first game against Kawasaki Brave Thunders 94-79 and maintains the highest winning percentage in the league.
If you only look at the result of the game, it looks like A-Tokyo won the game completely, but even though they dominated with second-chance points, Arturas Gudaitis’ buzzer-beater ended the third quarter with a score of 68-66. I was at a disadvantage. Still, A-Tokyo switched gears and dominated Kawasaki from the beginning of the final quarter. They continued to make tough shots with their strong defense, and Ryoma Hashimoto made a 3-point shot from the second chance, and Yutaka Yoshii also hit a corner 3. Immediately after Yoshii committed an offensive foul, Sebastian Saiz, who scored a game-high 28 points, made a successful 3-point shot, leading to an 11-0 run in about 3 and a half minutes that quickly decided the game. I attached it.
Yoshii made a 3-point shot during a big run, earned an offensive foul that gave him possession, and blocked Rosco Allen late in the third quarter, making his performance stand out at key points. Still, he played just under 12 minutes and only attempted one field goal. Considering his performance with the Japan national team, it would be nice if he was given more opportunities to play, but his average playing time after 26 games is 11.07 minutes, and his ranking within the team is by no means high.
Yoshii faces this reality head-on, saying, “I’m always doing it with the mindset that I’m going to be DNP (been on the bench but not playing),” and is facing this predicament with strong mental strength.
“As a player, it’s quite difficult to have your heart shaken by whether or not you participate in a match, so I’m always thinking about what I can do to give my best when I do.In the professional world, it’s more about your heart than your technique. I think it’s extremely important to be able to maintain it myself, and it’s not best if I can’t maintain it unless someone inspires me, so I’m conscious of continuing to maintain it on my own.”
“It’s important to always keep doing what you need to do now.”
And for Yoshii, even the short time after the match has been decided is an important time to promote himself. “Whether or not there is garbage time is important to me.I think some coaches may choose not to play it unless they have trust in them, and our coach has a strong feeling that he wants to keep things tight. Since it’s the last time, I don’t want it to end in a bad mood, so even if I can’t appear, I’ll prepare, and I think everyone is doing it to support those around them.”
It’s never easy to make a big impact in a short amount of time. It’s even more important to continue doing it consistently rather than just one time. Additionally, in the case of A Tokyo, defensive performance is more important than offensive performance, so continuity is even more important. Knowing that there are no shortcuts, Yoshii emphasizes, “It’s important to always keep doing what’s necessary.”
“When I want to increase my playing time, I sometimes get too excited and end up wasting my time, so I try to stay calm and keep doing the same thing consistently. For us, it’s not about scoring, it’s about defense. If I can continue to do what the coaches want me to do, I can play in the game. However, the standards are extremely high, so there are some difficult parts.I have to make sure to make 3-point shots from spot-ups, and don’t miss what is required of me on defense. I think that’s the secret to extending my playing time.”
As mentioned above, Yoshii made spot threes in important situations and achieved certain results on defense, showing performances that will directly lead to increased playing time. If Yoshii can continue to perform like this, he will naturally move up the rankings.
Yoshii’s new celebration👌👌👌
