Excelsior is currently not close to the arrival of Thomas van den Belt. The Feyenoord midfielder could be rented, but the Kralingers would prefer to permanently recruit new players.

Excelsior is looking for an easy-scoring midfielder, according to coach Marinus Dijkhuizen. Last season Van den Belt proved to be that at PEC Zwolle. It earned him a transfer to Feyenoord, but he does not get to play much at De Kuip yet. Van den Belt is now on the list of Excelsior, among others.
But: “We can’t buy that,” Dijkhuizen said RTV Rijnmond. “We want to look at players we can buy so we can develop value.” Excelsior therefore more or less puts an end to the arrival of Van den Belt, who will be followed by more Eredivisie clubs.

Excelsior training camp ‘failed’
Excelsior’s training camp in Alicante, Spain, was canceled this week due to several cases of illness. “A disease broke out on Friday afternoon, which happened very quickly in a few hours,” says Dijkhuizen. “Seventy percent of the selection has caught it. I have never experienced this before. The camp was not successful. I am afraid this will also have an impact on the coming weeks.”
