“The application process is open to anyone interested,” the band explained on Friday on the online service X, formerly Twitter. The group, known for hits like “Cherub Rock” and “Tonight, Tonight,” invited potential applicants to send in their resumes and other application documents.
Since 2007, Jeff Schroeder had played as a guitarist in the band’s most recent composition. In 2023 he announced his separation from the Smashing Pumpkins.
The band, founded in Chicago in the 1980s, achieved great success with a mixture of metal and dreamy pop sounds. They disbanded in 2000. Founding member and frontman Billy Corgan revived the band in 2006, and guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin rejoined the original line-up over the last decade.
After Schroeder’s departure, the rockers are now looking for a fourth band member before their European tour with the band Weezer, which is scheduled to start on June 7th in Birmingham, England. Later this summer, the Smashing Pumpkins will join Green Day on their North American concert tour.
