[周刊王CTWANT] A magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred in the Noto area of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan on the 1st. It is currently confirmed that 126 people have died and 210 people are missing. According to a survey by the Institute of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, due to the strong earthquake, the earth’s crust was squeezed 200 meters toward the ocean. As a result, 240 hectares of land suddenly appeared on the 85 kilometers of Ishikawa’s local coastline.

According to the “Yomiuri Shimbun” report, the Institute of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan recently conducted calculations through earth observation satellites and found that an 85-kilometer-long area on the northern coast of the Noto Peninsula has experienced a large seabed uplift. From Suzu City to 240 hectares of land were developed along the coastal area of about 50 kilometers around Wajima City.

The report also mentioned that the most obvious areas were around Meifune Fishing Port, Wajima City, and Minazuki Bay. The surface of Wajima City and Minazuki Bay rose by as much as 4 meters. The seabed in the local fishing port of Suzhou Nagahashi Town is also very exposed, and the tsunami observation meter installed there is directly inoperable.

Hideaki Goto, associate professor of geography at Hiroshima University, said that in the past thousands of years, major earthquakes that changed the terrain would occur in Noto at regular intervals, and a similar major earthquake also occurred this time.
The report also mentioned that according to the tsunami disaster situation analyzed by the Institute of Land and Geography from aerial photos, the flooded area in Suzu City was as large as about 130 hectares. However, in some areas due to cloud cover, it was not possible to confirm the collapse of the entire house and other disasters.
