Germany wants major European countries to do more to help Ukraine. This was said by Finance Minister Christian Lindner at a congress of his party in Stuttgart, NOVA reported.
According to the minister, it is not acceptable that “other strong European countries” provide less aid than Germany.
In November, Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that the ruling coalition had agreed that Germany would double military aid to Ukraine. Since Russia invaded the neighboring country, most of the armaments sent to the Ukrainians have come from the United States. Experts say that after 3 decades of heavily slashed defense spending, most European countries lack the weapons and production capacity to provide significant assistance.
“The threat is real to everyone in Europe, so we must share the burden. Germany cannot do more for Ukraine, and the other strong European countries less. Now is the time for the European Union, as a community united by values, to come together in difficult times,” said Christian Lindner, Germany’s finance minister.
