Steven Bergwijn is interested in leaving Ajax. That reports The Daily Mirror. The attacker’s wish to leave is said to have been partly inspired by a promise that Ajax made to the wing attacker, but had never kept until now.

Bergwijn switched from Tottenham Hotspur to Ajax a year and a half ago for more than 30 million euros. The then club management of Ajax is said to have promised the Dutch international that more big names would follow after his arrival to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. “The idea was outlined to Bergwijn that Ajax would bring in top players from all over Europe, but dismissed technical director Sven Mislintat wasted 150 million euros on disappointing transfers,” said Daily Mirror journalist Ryan Taylor.
According to the English medium, Bergwijn is unhappy at Ajax and would rather lose him than be rich. ‘Bergwijn is not popular at the club, despite the fact that he is the top earner in the selection with a weekly salary of almost 100,000 euros per week.’ The captain is said to have a bad relationship with both supporters and the media.

West Ham, the interested party, is only too happy to see Bergwijn come. The London club also did business with Ajax last summer. Then Edson Álvarez and Mohammed Kudus made the move from Amsterdam. The Mexican and Ghanaian quickly emerged as important links in manager David Moyes’ formation.
