Significant Traffic Disruptions Expected as Farmers Call for Week of Protest in Borken District, January 6, 2024

– Significant traffic disruptions expected
– Appeal to meeting and road participants
January 6, 2024 Borken district (ots). Farmers nationwide have called for a week of protest.

Currently, 23 meetings have been reported to the Borken district police authority, all of which are supposed to take place in the form of elevators with tractors. Currently, around 1,100 participating vehicles are expected in the Borken district.

“Nearly throughout the district there will be significant traffic disruptions next Monday due to the elevators and the corresponding arrival and return journeys; these will affect both rush-hour traffic and public transport. The police will accompany the elevators and in particular ensure the safety of road traffic “I appeal to all road users to prepare for the situation, to use alternative means of transport or, if possible, to avoid driving in the affected areas altogether,” said operations manager Thomas Funke.

“If the journeys cannot be avoided, I ask you to be considerate and careful in the interests of safety. Make sure you plan enough time reserves and avoid risky overtaking or other risky traffic maneuvers,” the police director continued.

As soon as the exact routes are determined, the police will publish them. Cooperation discussions are currently still taking place.

Police Director Thomas Funke: “It is very important to us as the police that the meetings in the Borken district are peaceful. We are deployed with a strong force to accompany and protect the elevators accordingly. However, I would like to emphasize one thing: we Urgently call on the meeting participants to adhere to the agreements made with the meeting chairs. In addition, we do not tolerate any criminal behavior by meeting participants or other disruptions. We will consistently punish and prosecute violations.”

The right to assemble is a high legal right of constitutional status, but it is not unlimited. A basic condition is to gather peacefully and without weapons. In addition, the assembly law of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia prohibits gatherings on federal highways! Because of the high risk to traffic on the federal highways, the police will not accept blockades that directly affect traffic on the federal highways, neither in the run-up to the meetings nor during the processions.
