International Tourist Taxes: What You Need to Know for Bali, Thailand, and Venice

From February 14 this year, international and domestic arrivals will have to pay 150,000 Indonesian rupiah (€8.80). The fee will have to be paid in special booths at Bali International Airport. Authorities have promised the process will take less than 30 seconds.

According to the authorities, the proceeds will go to projects that “preserve the environment, nature and culture, and improve the quality of Bali.”

No final decision has been made in Thailand yet

In 2022, it was reported that Thailand plans to introduce a tourism tax from June 2023. This did not happen, and the tax was not implemented until the next deadline, which was scheduled for October.

So far, the plan has not been approved for 2024 either. It is reported that representatives of the airline industry are fighting against this tax.

Initially, it was reported that the fee would be around 8 euros.

The pearl of Italy, Venice, has less than 50,000 permanent residents, but during the tourist season, the city is sometimes visited by at least twice as many tourists. The huge number of visitors, especially those who arrive on cruise ships and spend only a few hours in Venice, has caused major problems for many years, so starting this year Venice will introduce a tourist tax.

Tourists who have not stayed overnight in the old town will have to pay a fee for entering the city center between 8.30 to 16.00 So if you’re in town just for dinner, you won’t be charged this fee.

The toll will be charged during the peak tourist season from April 25 to May 5, as well as other weekends in May and June and the first two weekends of July.
