SC Potsdam returns from Neuwied with confidence. At the Deichstadtvolleys on Saturday, head coach Riccardo Boieri’s players showed a concentrated performance and won 3-0 (25:16, 25:17, 25:17). This means the team should go into Wednesday’s Champions League encounter against Grot Budowlani Lódz stronger. While the hosts had to do without Elisabeth Kettenbach and Lydia Stemmler due to injuries and Maike Thielmann and Miriam Sevenich were also missing from the regional league squad, the Potsdam women, for example, allowed Libera Sarah Stiriz to play and again did not use setter Kristina Guncheva.
Neuwied scored the first point through Amelie Strothoff. Although Potsdam quickly made it 2:1, the Deichstadt volleys immediately turned the tables back (3:2). A strong serving from Tara Taubner gave the guests a 5-3 lead, so that the Boieri team got some peace. The SCP went into the first technical timeout with a score of 8:4. Potsdam then extended the lead to 23:11. Breland Morrissette and Rodica Buterez in particular scored a lot of points. In addition, the Boieri volleyball players acted effectively in the block, so that the first set ball was awarded at 24:13. In the fourth attempt – after Laura Berger’s service error – the score was 25:16 for the SCP.
In the second set, the first point also went to VC Neuwied 77: Maya Sendner was successful over the middle. Taubner once again gave SCP the lead with her hard serves (4:2). The Potsdam women upped the ante and when Greta Kiss served it was already 10:3. The Champions League participant later increased the score to eight points (for example at 20:12). At least the hosts managed three points in a row in this phase (20:15). However, the visiting players couldn’t let their clear lead be taken away from them. Taubner made it 25:17 for Potsdam with an ace.
And the diagonal attacker also scored the first point in the third set. As a result, everything at Potsdam went according to plan. With some nice moves the SCP won 5:1. While Taubner, Buterez, Morrissette and Kiss continued to present themselves in strong attacking form at Potsdam, it was Berger and Strothoff who shone at the bottom of the table. Kiss managed to increase the lead to 16:8 with a tip. Setter Raquel Lazaro scored to make it 21:14 – so the team went into the supposed final phase with a comfortable lead. The second match point finally led to the decision: Kiss scored 25:17 and thus a 3-0 victory.
Result: 0:3 (16:25, 17:25, 17:25)
