PARIS. Slovak football representative Milan Škriniar will undergo an operation on his injured left ankle next week in Doha, Qatar.
On Saturday, his club Paris St. Germain, but did not say how long he would be on hiatus.
“Milan Škriniar, who has a dislocated lateral peroneal tendon in his left ankle, will undergo surgery next week at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha. A further update will be provided later,” the club said on its official website.
The captain of the Slovak national team injured his ankle in Wednesday’s match for the French Supercup against FC Toulouse (2:0).
Škriniar won his first trophy with PSG since his summer transfer from Inter Milan, but he did not finish the duel in the Park of the Princes and in the 71st minute gave up his place on the pitch to the Brazilian Lucas Beraldo. He arrived in Paris between the Christmas holidays from Sao Paulo.
“Unfortunately, after the game against Toulouse, the doctors did tests on Milan and found out that he needs an operation. Unless he undergoes it and we see how it goes, we won’t know how long he will be out. It’s a shame, as always, when a player gets injured . It’s bad news,” PSG coach Luis Enrique said on the eve of a cup tie with sixth-placed Revel.
In the second half of the season, in addition to the defense of the title in Ligue 1, PSG also awaits the round of 16 of the Champions League, against St. Germain will be Real Sociedad.
According to the AFP agency, Škriniar can miss both duels with the Spanish team (February 14, March 5) and should rest for several weeks.
It is not yet known whether his participation in the European Championships is at risk.
PSG is also missing another central defender, Presnel Kimpembe, who has a problem with his achilles.
