West Jakarta Police Chief Speaks Out on Harsh Treatment of Saipul Jamil’s Assistant

Jakarta

West Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner M Syahduddi opens his voice regarding the harsh words and beatings that occurred while securing an assistant Saipul Jamil (SJ), Steven Arthur Ristiady. Syahduddi said the person who hit Steven was not a police officer.

“Seeing the video showing the person knocking on the glass, hitting suspect S and also cursing in harsh language, after we crosscheck “against the 3 people at the crime scene and also the video, they were not our members,” said Commissioner M Syahduddi to journalists at the Tambora Police, Saturday (6/1/2024).

Syahduddi said that his party was still investigating the person who hit Steven during the arrest. He said there were residents who took the initiative to help chase Steven when the arrest incident occurred.

“So we are currently carrying out an investigation process because of that, when a vehicle behaved abnormally on the road and hit several other motorized vehicle drivers, so the initiative arose from members of the public to give chase,” he said.

He said members of the Tambora Police did not beat Steven or speak harshly. He said his party was still hunting for the person who carried out the beating.

“And when they found it, they also tried to open it and in the video there was a person wearing a maroon hoodie, if I’m not mistaken, it wasn’t the police after we searched. Well, we’re also looking for that person, so it’s true “This confusion will later be clarified by brother SJ. That it is a fact in the field that the officers in the field did not beat or speak harshly towards the perpetrator on behalf of S,” he said.

Syahduddi said that the person who threatened to shoot Steven was also not a police officer. He emphasized that the person who was wearing a jacket with the police inscription during the process of arresting Steven was also not a member.

“Yes (including those who made threats to shoot), it’s true that after we cross-checked the video and we broadcast it, we cross-checked the member’s face. It wasn’t our member who was chasing us. Because there were also members who were suspected of being members who were wearing jackets with police markings on them. That’s also “It turns out he’s not a member of the Tambora Police,” he said.

Furthermore, Syahduddi said that the investigation into the person who beat Steven involved Propam Polri. He confirmed that there were no shots fired during the pursuit and arrest of Saipul Jamil’s assistant.

“Well, we are also investigating this, that’s why we sent Propam to carry out an examination and in-depth investigation regarding this incident,” he said.
