Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski Discusses Conflicts and Collapse of Virtus.pro’s “Golden Team” in CS:GO

A member of the “golden team” of Virtus.pro in CS:GO, Janusz Snax Pogorzelski, discussed the conflicts that led to the collapse of the team. The player noted that the Mercedes given to Wiktor TaZ Wojtas was not the main reason for quarrels in the team. In an interview with British analyst Duncan Thorin Shields, the Pole also noted that the collapse of the team was inevitable, regardless of the results.

Of course, it wasn’t all about that tournament. Our breakup was due to a variety of reasons. I don’t know what the other guys said about this situation – I think PashaBiceps said something in an interview in Polish – but I would say that the team simply did not approach the problems in the best way at that particular moment, that’s all.

The Las Vegas tournament may have been part of the problem, but it certainly wasn’t the main reason for the breakup. In the same way, it cannot be said that any one person is to blame for the disband – they said that byali and I just kicked TaZ, but that’s not how things are done. I did not have such power in the team that would allow me to do everything my way.

[Thorin: кажется, даже сам TaZ об этом говорил. У него были связи с руководством, и перед ним стоял выбор: кикнуть всех и остаться, или позволить кикнуть самого себя. Верно?]

Maybe, I’m not sure. What I can say for sure is that the decision was made by all of us together. We all needed to understand the situation and agree: “Okay, let’s do it this way.” I don’t want to talk too much about all of this – I’m sure TaZ and NEO will be able to tell the story in their own way.

Snax noted that the responsibilities of in-game leader, which were transferred to him from TaZ, led to failures on the server. According to the player, until this moment he did not realize what problems were present in the team’s play in different positions.

I can say that the Mercedes became the match that kind of set fire to the rest of the structure. In my opinion, TaZ handled the situation very well at that moment, but everything that happened in the team later, on the contrary, was not done in the best way. Then I suddenly became an in-game leader, although I did not know about the problems that existed in different positions. I can’t say that I didn’t want to be a leader – I never refused, and in the past, even before VP, I constantly led teams.

You may remember my post where I talked about TaZ and NEO. That was the moment when I finally understood what had happened—how things had changed since Las Vegas. If you compare the dates of the tournament and my post, it becomes clear how long it took me to realize the scale of the problem [турнир в Лас-Вегасе прошел в феврале 2017-го, машина была подарена TaZ в марте, а пост Snax вышел в сентябре — прим. ред.]. We didn’t communicate at all about the situation in the team, we just shielded ourselves from everything that happened.

Dissatisfaction was accumulating, motivation was falling, and also this emotional post from me – I felt disgusting, all this put a lot of pressure on me, there was simply no motivation to play. As I already said, I don’t want to name nicknames or point out the actions of other players – let’s be honest, I myself was not an angel in this situation. We had our ups and our downs, just like everyone else. I think in the end we managed to write a beautiful story with this Virtus.pro roster. Perhaps the only thing I regret after all this time is how exactly we broke up. I think everything could have gone smoother – there were still disagreements and some conflicts between us.

At the same time, the collapse itself was inevitable, I don’t think that we could continue to play with this lineup, although the replacements, of course, were not made in the best way. However, it was really time for us to part ways. I’m only sad that we couldn’t just get together and talk peacefully like other teams. Now I can already communicate with any of my former teammates, but only because time heals.

Snax played for Virtus.pro from 2014 to 2018, and then returned for another season in 2019. The team won many tournaments, including the second major in the history of CS:GO – EMS One Katowice 2014. The team set a professional stage record for the duration of performance without replacements, but in 2018 captain TaZ left the team. The organization continued to reassemble the lineup, but in December 2019, a disband awaited him.
