Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Celebrates New Year in Senja with 130-140 Followers

(Northern Lights): The Indian yoga guru, spiritual leader and founder of the voluntary and humanitarian organization The Art of Living, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (67) celebrated the start of the new year at Hamn in Senja. Folkebladet mentioned this first.

The guru has 2.4 million followers on the social network Instagram, which he updates with words of wisdom and advice.

And it is not only online that the guru, who is a champion of peace and human dignity, has followers.

He had with him 40-50 people in a separate group, who had booked accommodation at the hotel for the planned holiday trip.

In addition, people came from different countries all over the world who travel around and physically follow the guru wherever he travels.

– In total there were 130-140 people. Many arrived driving in rental cars, who had not booked a room. We didn’t have room for everyone, the hotel was full. So some slept in cars, some rented out on Airbnb and some slept in other places, says Finn Folke-Olsen.

– Special experience

He had his first day of work as sales manager at Hamn i Senja on Monday and describes unusual working days for the employees at the hotel.

– It is a world that is a little incomprehensible to us, that a person comes with a following. They follow him because he has the values he has and has charisma. It becomes almost like a congregation, with a strong religious feel, and it was a special experience, says Folke-Olsen.

The guru arrived at Bardufoss in a private plane, and had, among other things, his own chef and photographer in his entourage.

– But he didn’t have any special demands on us at the hotel. He did not eat in the restaurant, but enjoyed himself in the Aurora suite with vegetarian food. He lives ascetically, and among other things did not use the bed in the hotel room, but slept on the floor.

Northern lights and snowshoeing

The weather at Senja was at its best, and the guru got to experience the northern lights and snowshoeing, guided by Finn Folke-Olsen. Along the way there was meditation.

– We think it’s a bit hopeless to go on a snowshoe trip in a skirt when it’s minus 15 degrees outside, but it went well. We are happy with our guests and that they add color to our lives.

In the company was, among others, former secretary general of the Norwegian Sports Confederation, Inge Andersen, who has become acquainted with the guru through her previous work.

The feedback from the visit was very good.

– They were very satisfied with what they had experienced with us and the team promised to come back. We can’t get better feedback, smiles Finn Folke-Olsen.
