How Anna and Angelina Zavalsky from the Alibi group have changed over 23 years. Photos then and now
Two Kiev sisters Angelina and Anna from the Alibi group have been delighting Ukrainians with their creativity for more than 23 years. With breaks, under different names and solo, the singers did not stop practicing their vocal skills. The most successful time for them was 2001-2012.
It was during this period of time that Ukrainians closely followed the work of the Zavalsky sisters. Now they perform under the pseudonym The Alibi Sisters and continue to give concerts. OBOZ.UA decided to show how the performers have changed.
From the age of five, the sisters were soloists of the folk group “Rucheyok”, and in 1998-2000 they sang in the “Cappuccino” quartet.
In 2001, the duet “Alibi” appeared, which immediately appealed to listeners. Their first solo album, “Yes or No,” gave a powerful start to the artists’ careers.
Most of the songwriters were the sisters themselves. Their lyrical, tender and dance tracks “Forget”, “Melody of Rain”, “Not for the Press”, “From a Clean Slate”, etc. tore up the music charts.
Angelina and Anna were remembered as bright singers who were in the trend of those years, dressed openly and filmed bold videos. When they returned as a duo in 2021, the artists’ style became completely different. Not least of all, this is due to the internal changes of Ukrainian women. During this time, the performers became mothers and lived a quiet family life.
They still prefer deep necklines and sexy stage looks, are not afraid of makeup and charm with charisma on stage, but their style has noticeably “matured”. This applies to both appearance and music.
Fundamental changes are indicated, at least, by the fact that The Alibi Sisters do not release Russian-language songs. Their tracks are no longer dedicated to fatigue from the press and unhappy love. Nowadays singers focus more on vocals and melody.
There was nothing left of the chaotic curls, voluminous hairstyles and black-lined eyes. Now the sisters choose a discreet, feminine, elegant style and beautifully styled hair.
In 2022, the stars were forced to leave the country due to a full-scale Russian attack, but subsequently returned home with their children. Currently, they continue to perform concerts throughout the country and abroad for charity. They donate part of the proceeds from ticket sales to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
