Goodbye to the Old Wolf
Zagallo conquered the world with football — whether on the field or off it. Velho Lobo is, to this day, the biggest World Cup winner, with two titles as a player, one as a coach and one as a technical coordinator.
In addition to the four feats, he coached Brazil in the 1974 and 1998 editions and was part of the technical committee at the 2006 World Cup, alongside multi-champion Carlos Alberto Parreira.
His successful career earned Zagallo FIFA’s highest honor: the entity’s Order of Merit award, awarded in 1992. The Brazilian, in fact, became the first sportsman in history to receive the decoration.
The Alagoan-Carioca man who saw the Maracanazo up close
Mário Jorge was born on August 9, 1931 and, less than a year old, started living in Rio de Janeiro. It was in the Tijuca neighborhood that he took his first steps, and the first team could not have been any other: América.
