In July 1995, the members of the group signed a contract with Virgin Records. A year later, they released Wannabe, a worldwide hit that became the best-selling debut single by an all-female group and topped the charts in 37 countries.
Sixth group on British stamps
The group has sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Their first album ‘Spice’ is one of the best selling albums of any female group.
Unofficially disbanded around 2001, but reunited for tours in 2007 and 2019. From time to time there is speculation about further appearances.
The Spice Girls are the sixth musical group to be included in a stamp-worthy group by the British Royal Mail. The first were the Beatles in 2007, then Pink Floyd in 2016, Queen in 2020, the Rolling Stones in 2022 and Iron Maiden in 2023.
The Spice Girls stamps go on sale on January 11 and are available in a variety of collector’s editions.
