John van ‘t Schip knows that January will be a difficult month for Ajax. The trainer was absent when Ajax drew against PEC and lost in the KNVB Cup and that is why the atmosphere has changed.

Van ‘t Schip is now back at Ajax and is completing the training camp in Cádiz with his team. In conversation with it Algemeen Dagblad the trainer looks ahead to the second half of the season. “You continue to build your team. What is clear is that the honeymoon weeks are over. The first six and seven weeks that I was in front of the group. I now also have to deal with boys who want to play and are dissatisfied. The normal things that you have to solve as a coach or that you have to provide some clarity about. That is all coming to the surface now, more than in those first six weeks.”
Despite the disappointing fifth place, Ajax has played few top matches. “We will simply continue to build and improve what we were doing. It is also clear that we now have to play against tougher opponents. We have not yet had the top four. That is also what you want. If you If you want to close the gap, you have to do so against your direct competitors,” Van ‘t Schip concludes.
