Mumbai: Indian women player Smriti Mandana completed 3000 runs in Twenty20 cricket. The player reached the milestone in his career with a brilliant performance in the first T20 match against Australia. The Indian vice-captain shone by scoring a half-century against Australia in the match held in Navi Mumbai on Friday. Mandana has scored 3052 runs in T20Is with 54 runs from 52 balls including one six and seven boundaries. India won the match by nine wickets.
Smriti Mandana is the fourth Indian player to complete 3000 runs in Twenty20 cricket. Other Indian players who have achieved this feat are Virat Kohli, men’s team captain Rohit Sharma and women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Mandana is the sixth woman player to reach 3000 runs in women’s T20Is after Susie Bates, Meg Lanning, Stephanie Taylor, Harmanpreet and Sophie Devine. Mandana scored 3000 T20 runs in 2461 balls. Smriti Mandana is also the fastest female player to achieve this feat.
The Indian women came down to the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, tired of the heavy defeat in the Test series against the Aussies. But with pacer Titus Sadhu taking four wickets for 17 runs and Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandana shining with half-centuries, Aussies had to kneel down in front of India. Batting first, Australia were all out for 141 runs in 19.2 overs. In reply, Indian women overcame the target in 17.4 overs with the loss of one wicket.
