TVDoes Benny die in ‘Familie’ and does Roel Vanderstuk disappear from the VTM soap ‘Familie’ after 13 years? The viewer was sent into the weekend with that question on Friday. In the final image of the midseason, Benny collapsed lifeless after being shot in the chest at close range by villain Daniel. The soap lover was also presented with quite a bit of romance in the double episode, because love triumphed. After weeks of yearning, they finally kissed deeply.
LOOK. Tension everywhere: will Benny survive Daniel’s shot?
The parcels under the Christmas tree have largely been unpacked everywhere, but VTM still had one for the soap fans on Friday: the midseason of ‘Familie’. In the run-up to the double episode, VTM had already shared a trainer and therefore the viewer knew before the start that they would mainly have to look forward to how the police would catch bad guy Daniel (Pepijn Huysmans). The villain blackmailed Jamila (Jools Jatta Janssens) with sensitive images of her and, just like with his other victims, he used her as a money mule and her bank details as a way station to channel crime money.
Involved
Stepdad Benny (Roel Vanderstuk) had interfered, but only made everything worse. His account was also looted in the meantime. The holidays seemed to be going poorly for the Coppens family. But that was without counting on computer science student and Jamila’s ex-boyfriend Jelle (Maarten Cop). He helped the police with some computer tricks to roll up Daniel’s network. Only the leader was still on the run, but his arrest would happen tonight with Jelle as bait.
However, due to Benny’s actions, the plan went completely wrong. Daniel smelled trouble and fled. Finally, during a skirmish with Benny, a shot was fired. The handyman collapsed. The pool of blood and menacing music immediately suggested that the gunfight had ended fatally. Is that right? That will become clear on Monday. A death would then be in line with previous midseason finales. Exactly a year ago, Veronique (Sandrine André) killed her ex Koen (Sieg De Doncker) and a few seasons before that, CEO Lars (Kürt Rogiers) was also shot in the final image. He did survive the attack. And so the question remains: does ‘Family’ start on Monday in the hospital or the morgue?

The midseason wasn’t all about the gunfight and bloodshed on Friday. Cupid had also provided some counterweight. After many doubts, Hanne (Margot Hallemans) and Niko (Jo Hens) chose each other and sealed it with a passionate kiss. Although Hanne will still have to inform her ex-roomie and aunt Mieke (Caroline Maes) that she has run off with her ex. That awkward conversation is for later, but in the meantime ‘Family’ has already gained a new love couple.
And even two. Because Louise (Charlotte Sieben) and Bram (Amine Boujouh) have also stepped out of the friend zone. The two had been attracted to each other for weeks, but did not show it to each other. Not even during their joint dance lessons. In the meantime, Louise continued to date Tristan and Brahim with Liesje. But it became clear in the midseason that in their hearts they only longed for each other. Instead of going to her gala ball, Louise Brahim went to the Jan & Alleman and arranged for a romantic moment. The two danced a tango full of longing and ended it with a first, intimate kiss. Too bad for Raven (Aaron Blommaert), Louise’s ex. He should no longer count on a reconciliation.

Not only Jamila and her mother Samira (Belinda Voorspoels), but also the same Raven, caused the tears in the midseason. Lars’ son (Kürt Rogiers) has been fighting his drug addiction for some time and it is very difficult. In this episode, family therapy with Raven and Lars was on the program. However, that was once again not a success. In addition, Raven discovered that his buddy Kevin had relapsed and was in the hospital. Raven felt guilty for that, because Kevin had sought help and tried to reach Raven. Raven hadn’t answered his cell phone because he was having issues of his own at the time. Result: Raven is now a complete wreck and blames herself for everything. His tears couldn’t wash away his feelings of guilt.
