Harlej Releases New Album “So Far So Good” and Celebrates 30 Years in Prague

The new So far so good turned out well too. She is not as strong as her predecessor, but Harlej has established a position on her.

Next year, this Prague band will be here for thirty years. She determined her direction immediately with the first album Aj mena ou bejby hel (1995), which is probably the most famous in her discography. Later, she came up with better or less good acts, but fundamentally she did not deviate much in terms of quality. It is an orthodox rock band that benefits from hard rock, domestic big beat and clear melodies.

So Far So Good is her fourteenth album. There is no need for her to convince listeners or critics that her members are mature musicians, nor that singer Tomáš Hrbáček is much more confident in the studio than live, and his expression has fundamentally co-created Harlej’s character for many years. It was just a matter of writing and recording songs that had enough imagination, appeal and melody to rival the best of the older ones.

Harlej: We never lost the teenagers in us

After listening to the album for the first time, the strong qualities of the new product do not emerge immediately, on the contrary, you have to wait for at least one more play. However, good rock and roll is listened to repeatedly, sometimes over and over again, so that’s not a problem.

For example, the interestingly constructed chorus and solo in the opening song of the same name, the attractive riff in the following You can have it, the lightness of the sound in Tak mi zavolej, the nice text in the somewhat traditional ballad Wedding shirt, the tap in Osmi bravenech or the lightness and singing in the finale appear in complete beauty Tomorrow will be better.

Less pleasant are the moments when you get the feeling that Harlej is a bit repetitive, which is not unusual after so many records, or when more phrases appear in the text than is common for this genre. This applies, for example, to the songs Let it be or I’m still on my feet.

Harlej is a band that still composes meaningful compositions. Each of them is an arrow sent directly or close to the eager heart of a rock fan.
