After a visit to Quimperlé this Thursday, January 4, 2024 in the morning, Loïg Chesnais-Girard stopped at Châteaulin in the middle of the afternoon. The president of the Brittany region wanted to salute “the teams” following the flood of the Aulne, knowing that it requires “a lot of commitment” and “generates stress”. He paid tribute to the work of the technical services, elected officials and the river center, which manages the canal on the Finistère part.
600 trees to clear for the river center
There was also the question of trees, Gaëlle Nicolas having written to the Region after the Ciaran storm to point out this potential danger in the event of flooding of the Aulne. “Fortunately, the large tree that fell into the water near the Renault garage had been cleared before the holidays. Otherwise, it could have caused great damage by being swept away by the waves.” Representatives of the river center indicated that, from Carhaix to Port Launay, they had to manage 600 trees that had fallen to the ground. Two thirds of them are located on the backhaul, where, with the waterlogged soils, it is not yet possible to bring machinery to work.
