North Korea Provides Ballistic Missiles to Russia for Use in Ukraine Conflict – White House Statement

North Korea recently provided Russia with ballistic missiles and launchers for use in Moscow’s war against Ukraine, some of which Russia fired into Ukraine, the White House said Thursday, citing recently declassified intelligence.

National security spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the United States would raise the issue of the situation with the UN Security Council.

Kirby called North Korea’s arms transfer to Russia a “significant and troubling escalation” and said the United States would impose additional sanctions on those who facilitate arms deals.

“Our information indicates that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has recently provided Russia with ballistic missile launchers and several ballistic missiles,” Kirby said, using North Korea’s official name.

In recent days, he said, “Russian forces have fired at least one of these North Korean ballistic missiles into Ukraine,” adding that it appeared to have landed in an open field.

Kirby said Iran has not supplied Russia with short-range ballistic missiles, but Washington believes Russia intends to buy missile systems from Iran.

Moscow is heavily dependent on Iran for drones and other weapons to use against Ukraine.

Russia recently launched some of its most intense strikes against Ukraine since the war began almost two years ago. On Tuesday, Kiev said Russia had launched more than 300 combat drones and various types of missiles at cities in Ukraine since Friday.
