Mayor Adams Faces Possible Fines for Violating City Laws: Failure to Register Rental Property Sparks Concern

The mayor could face another series of fines for violating city laws.

The Daily News reports that Adams apparently failed to properly register his rental property in Bedford-Stuyvesant with the Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Landlords are supposed to complete documentation detailing exactly what they charge their tenants.

The post says Mayor Adams received a citation in November for failing to complete this paperwork for his property on Lafayette Avenue.

Property owners who do not register their buildings on time can face fines of between $250 and $500 for each violation.

Adams’ previous registration expired in September.

It had previously gone 12 years without proper registration, from 2009 to 2021.

This is the same building that was the subject of fines for rat infestation in a previous investigation.

The mayor’s office has not responded to a request for comment.
