The Minister of Health, María Martín, visited the Pediatrics wing of the San Pedro Hospital today to accompany the national coach, Luis de la Fuente, to deliver gifts to the nine children admitted.
There, in statements to the media, he recalled that this year was the first in which children were vaccinated for immunization against the respiratory syncytial virus (better known as against bronchiolitis).
In children “six months and under,” he reported, “There has been a much lower incidence in the hospital“and this is how the pediatricians have sent it to them.
However, the same is not happening with flu and bronchitis, something that has been attributed to the incidence of vaccination against Influenza A, which has also, for the first time, been opened to children.
Therefore, he has encouraged parents to also vaccinate their children against the flu, remembering that “We continue to have parties, like the Three Kings’ Day, and we continue to meet.”
RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE AEP
The Spanish Association of Pediatrics considers flu vaccination indicated for all children between 6 and 59 months; as well as people from 6 months of age in certain situations or with underlying diseases that pose an increased risk of suffering from flu complications.
Also, people from 6 months of age who live with at-risk patients, or who live with children under 6 months of age.
Furthermore, it considers that the flu vaccination of children over 59 months of age who are not included in the risk groups is also a recommended measure, since this preventive practice provides the child and adolescent with individual protection and favors family and community protection.
