The statue of Vincent van Gogh that was stolen in Assen at the beginning of December is back in its place. New Year’s Eve association De Oliebol from Vledder reports this on Facebook.

The painter’s sculpture disappeared in Assen in early December. The statue was placed there by the Vaart business association in Assen on the occasion of the Van Gogh exhibition in the Drents Museum.

Vaart in Assen announced at the beginning of December that it would report the theft. The entrepreneurs’ club had given the perpetrators until Christmas to put the statue back, but that did not happen.

The statue was replaced undamaged. New Year’s Eve club De Oliebol tells local media that it hopes that the report will now be withdrawn.

Vaart in Assen would have preferred to see the statue earlier, because the exhibition in the Drents Museum only lasts until January 7. Also the so-called city experiencea route through the city that includes shop windows and murals inspired by Van Gogh, is then over.
