The Swedish Transport Administration has also been out and cut away the guard rails along parts of the European road, informs police press contact Evelina Olsson a little before 11pm on Wednesday evening.
– We have more resources on site and assist the rescue service with rerouting the traffic. The problem is that the alternative routes south of the E22 are also affected, says Olsson.

Quite a storm
Blekinge and Skåne are particularly affected by strong winds, heavy snowfall and slippery roads. Only a short time after the plows have done their work, the road snows once again.

Some of those stuck on the E22 between Hörby and Kristianstad have been there since Wednesday morning. The rescue service has launched an operation to evacuate the motorists and is getting help from the police and the armed forces.
– We encourage motorists to stay in the car and wait for help, says Olsson.
The police estimate that the work will take several hours and continue into the night. Only at 5 o’clock on Thursday morning does the Swedish Transport Administration believe that the road can be opened.
Ambulance stuck
An ambulance with an acutely ill patient also got stuck in the snow, but got free at 9.30pm. Some other cars have also escaped from the snow chaos.

Further north also creates problems. The Gotland ferry has canceled its departures on Wednesday evening, and the bus service along the coast in Norrland has been canceled because it is too cold for the buses, reports Sveriges Radio.
