In the last few weeks the BBC filmed a report about the musical tradition in the Salzkammergut. The contribution was shown to the British audience during a break as part of the broadcast of the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert.
The BBC interviewed Hubert von Goisern and presented Lake Traunsee, which is portrayed as a vacation spot for the composers Arnold Schönberg, Anton Bruckner, Johannes Brahms and Franz Schubert. In the contribution, the Goisern music school director and concert organizer Peter Brugger plays a composition by Schönberg on the glass grand piano that is used in his ice sound concerts. “We don’t want to portray the Salzkammergut as a meeting place for famous composers of the 19th century,” he says. “We are looking for the Schönbergs of tomorrow.”
Governor Thomas Stelzer is pleased about the representation of the Salzkammergut in Great Britain. “This article shows how far the Capital of Culture and the Cultural EXPO have an impact and what impact the events have,” he says.
