Some farmers are calling for much more radical protests and accusing the farmers’ association of not representing the interests of farmers, and right-wing populists are also jumping on the issue. Shortly before Christmas, the German Farmers’ Association in Berlin distanced itself from “imbeciles with fantasies of subversion, radicals and other extreme fringe groups and weirdos” on Platform X and called for a peaceful protest.
Even before the week of protests: farmers are demonstrating in Bavaria
Although the protest week has not yet started, there have already been demonstrations by farmers. On Tuesday evening (January 2nd), around 1,200 farmers with several hundred tractors gathered in Hammelburg, Lower Franconia. Next week, the regional association of Bavarian freight forwarders is also planning a protest against the federal government’s policies. The rally in Munich is scheduled for January 12th. (came/dpa)
