US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller denied media reports about an alleged change in the American strategy of supporting Ukraine in its opposition to full-scale Russian aggression.
Source: Miller said on briefing on Wednesday, January 3, reports “European truth”
Details: The journalist asked a State Department representative to comment on media reports according to which “the United States wants Ukraine to change its strategy from complete victory to being in a better negotiating position.”
“No, no, that’s not true,” Miller answered shortly.
During December, at least two publications – The New York Times and Politico – published lengthy materials alleging a subtle change in American strategy towards Ukraine.
Both outlets argued that the United States was pushing Ukraine toward a more defensive strategy to hold territory and build up forces to deter Russian advances. Reasons for this change included uncertainty about continued support due to congressional discussions.
Note also that NYT they also wrote about the supposed readiness Russian President Vladimir Putin to conclude a “truce” if Kyiv and the West recognize the illegally occupied territories of Ukraine as Russian.
