Head of Disnakkeswan Tubaba Nazarudin through the Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health (Keswan and Veterinary Affairs) Irwan Sutrisno, said that the program would soon be realized from the first or second week of January.
“This year, especially in the Animal Welfare and Veterinary Affairs Sector, there are a number of programs that will soon be implemented, namely vaccination for Foot and Mouth Disease (PMK), Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) or vaccination for skin infections in cattle, rabies vaccination, mass treatment, and animal welfare inspections. ,” said Irwan when confirmed by Lampung Corner in his office, Wednesday (03/01/2024).
Irwan explained that the projection for PMK vaccination doses in 2024 is around 50 thousand doses which will be distributed to 20 thousand cattle, both vaccine doses 1, 2 and 3.
According to him, the total number of cattle that have been vaccinated against PMK in Tubaba Regency since last year is 23,500 out of a total population of around 28 thousand heads. And only around 5 thousand have not been vaccinated at all.
“Later, after all cattle have been vaccinated with PMK doses 1 to 3, then we will focus on the PMK vaccine for goats and buffalo. Because the priority scale is cows first which are very vulnerable. “The distance between vaccine doses from 1 to 2 is a month, and from doses 2 to 3 is 6 months,” he explained.
He continued, while vaccination for LSD or lato-lato disease in cattle will also be carried out, but waiting for information from the Provincial Government, because in the previous year only 3,500 cows had been vaccinated.
“Then, we will also start a mass treatment program for 10 thousand head of livestock starting this January, with details of treatment for 5 thousand goats and 5 thousand head of cattle. “Treatment consists of giving vitamins, antibiotics, checking pregnancy or rogoh, as well as artificial insemination or injection mating according to the breeder’s request,” he said.
He further explained that rabies vaccination for pet dogs, cats and monkeys will be implemented in September 2024. Then, the Veterinary Public Health program in the form of socialization and checking of animals for consumption will be carried out every time before big holidays.
“All implementation of this program is free without any charges for the community or livestock farmers, so please allow people who have livestock to propose to the Department of Health and Welfare so that their livestock immediately receive mass vaccination and treatment services, because all budget needs have been covered by the Center, Province and some districts,” he concluded.
