People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon visited the Korea Senior Citizens’ Association on the 3rd and apologized for the controversy over former emergency committee member Min Kyung-woo’s remarks derogatory to the elderly. Kim Ho-il, president of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, accepted Chairman Han’s apology.

Chairman Han apologized on this day, saying, “I am responsible for unintentionally hurting people’s feelings when we first launched (the Emergency Committee),” and added, “All of our members will calm down and be more careful in their words and actions.” Chairman Han said, “We, the People Power Party, are a political party that respects the elderly, and I think that should be the case. “It will continue to be that way,” he emphasized. Chairman Han also called Chairman Kim, who was overseas, to apologize immediately after the controversy over former Chairman Min broke out.

Chairperson Han emphasized that the first external group visit after taking office as emergency chairperson was to the Korean Senior Citizens’ Association, saying, “It means apologizing for our shortcomings, but it is also an expression of respect and admiration for those who have brought the Republic of Korea to this point.” “I thought this should be the first start of my politics,” he said. He added, “I will rely heavily on the experience and wisdom of the elders. “Please help me a lot,” he said.

Chairman Kim said, “I said that to the reporters. It seems that personnel verification is difficult. “I wondered why they had chosen someone who wanted to kill an old man,” he said. However, he said, “But before that, former Democratic Party Innovation Committee Chairman Kim Eun-kyung (who was involved in a controversy over degrading the elderly) came three or four days later, and Democratic Party Representative Lee Jae-myung said he would come to apologize, but in the end he never came,” adding, “Still, Chairman Han is clearly different in his quick response. He said, “I felt like there was some hope for the power of the people.”

Former member Min, who is a former activist and has been advocating for activist groups to be kicked out of politics, appeared on a YouTube channel last October and said, “The biggest tragedy right now is that the elderly are living too long. You have to go back quickly… “He said. Immediately after that remark, he said, “I’m sorry,” but controversy arose about belittling the elderly. Afterwards, former member Min repeatedly apologized and said, “I do not want to undermine the start of the emergency committee due to the controversy over my past remarks. He eventually resigned, saying, “From now on, I will do my best to clean up activist politics in my position.”

After the meeting, Kim Ye-ryeong, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said, “Chairman Kim suggested to Chairman Han that President Yoon Seok-yeol attend or make a congratulatory speech at ceremonies commemorating Senior Citizen’s Day and Parents’ Day.” Also, “Chairman Kim said, ‘What if President Yoon participates in the Senior Citizen’s Day or Parents’ Day ceremony?’ Chairman Han said, ‘I will make sure I can invite him. “I answered, ‘How could it be difficult?’” he said. Spokesperson Kim also said, “Chairman Han emphasized to party officials that they should respect, trust, and respect the achievements that the elders have accumulated.”
