Temperatures in Cuba have decreased considerably in recent weeks, making this start to the year one of the coldest. In this regard, Cuban journalist José Luis Tan Estrada has organized a coat drive to help homeless people in Camagüey face this problem.
Through a publication shared on social networks, the communicator has asked for the help of those people who can donate a coat for these people, some of the most vulnerable to low temperatures.
In that sense, the journalist asks those who do not have coats to donate to communicate the message to their neighbors, so that more people know about the cause.
“My people, I am collecting donations of coats. The nights in Camagüey are being very cold and we have many homeless people in need. If you have a coat at home that you don’t use, or if you know a neighbor or friend who wants to give one, don’t hesitate to write to me,” she wrote in his Facebook post.
So far, the publication has been shared more than 70 times, and has generated hundreds of reactions. Among the dozens of comments, several Internet users congratulated the journalist for having organized such a noble collection.
“God bless you”; “You are the best, that’s why I follow you” and “Many blessings for that great gesture. I hope all the people in this world think like you,” were some of the positive comments received by the journalist.
Another large portion of the comments were made by those people who were interested in providing their support, asking things such as where donations could be sent or if they could take them to a specific address.
While winter temperatures in Cuba are not as cold as in other countries, they can drop considerably at night, especially when meteorological factors such as cold fronts are present.
Due to this, wandering people, who are forced to sleep on the streets due to the lack of housing on the Island, run the risk of suffering hypothermia while they sleep, especially those of older age.
