Kupang – One patient with symptoms of rabies died while being treated at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) of South Central Timor Regency (TTS), NTT, Tuesday (2/1/2024) at 19.40 WITA.
The victim, whose name has not been reported, will be the first rabies patient to die in early 2024. Information obtained lintasntt.com stated that the patient had been bitten by a dog since June 2024, and refused to be injected with the anti-rabies vaccine (VAR).
He comes from KiE District and has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since January 1 2024. “The patient did not want to be vaccinated,” said doctor Asep Purnama who received the report of the patient’s death from the TTS Health Service.
Doctor Asep hopes that the government will act quickly to control the rabies outbreak on Timor Island, including by mobilizing the community so that people care and are ultimately able to get involved in efforts to prevent and control rabies.
“The government has a budget, has power and has human resources. “It is our duty (led by the government in power) to make the public aware and ultimately want to be involved in efforts to prevent and control rabies,” he said. (*/gma)
