Currently, in Peru, 3.1 million doses of the bivalent vaccine have been applied, of which 1 million were inoculated to people over 60 years of age. For this reason, the Minsa asks this age group to go to the vaccination point or health establishment closest to their home and get up to date with the covid-19 vaccine.
The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reiterates that people over 60 years of age, those who suffer from comorbidities, organ transplant recipients, oncology patients, those with HIV, among others with some risk factor, need two boosters of the bivalent vaccine against covid. -19 to protect yourself from the complications caused by the virus.
In the case of adults over 60 years of age, the second booster of the bivalent vaccine is given 4 months after the first. While, in immunocompromised people, the second bivalent dose is applied 2 months after the first.
People from 6 months to 59 years without any comorbidities require only one dose of the bivalent vaccine. Furthermore, it is not a requirement that they have prior monovalent doses to apply said booster dose.
It is worth mentioning that the bivalent vaccine protects against the original strain of covid-19 and against the lineages of the omicron variant. Therefore, it is important that the most vulnerable people have it and reinforce their protection.
After the last session of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Health, César Vásquez Sánchez, assured that there is a sufficient number of bivalent vaccines, which are the most effective doses against the strains of the virus that circulate in the country. Likewise, he called for calm and recommended families protect themselves against covid-19.
