Controversy has aroused the name of the new Atlantic Secretary of Education. This is Dagoberto Barraza Sanjuán, an old acquaintance of the department, who previously occupied the same department, but who in 2020 was deprived of liberty due to alleged irregularities in the School Feeding Program.

The appointment by Governor Eduardo Verano de la Rosa was received with criticism from some sectors, which questioned the suitability of the official from Sabanalarga (Atlántico).
Barraza Sanjuán was captured in November 2019 as Secretary of Education, within the framework of an investigation carried out by the Attorney General’s Office for alleged irregularities in the awarding of contracts for the School Care Program, PAE, in the municipalities of Atlántico.
The scandal broke out after at the beginning of that year, teachers and political leaders questioned him about the delay in launching the PAE during the 2019 term.

The authorities later found him responsible for contracting irregularities for more than 3,000 million pesos, from which he would also have benefited.
He received a house arrest as a measure to prevent him from leaving the country. The Prosecutor’s Office charged him with the crimes of undue interest in the execution of contracts, contracts without compliance with legal requirements, abuse of public office and embezzlement by appropriation in favor of third parties for more than $3,000 million, however, Barraza did not accept the charges.

The political agreement will be fully fulfilled and the Secretary of Education of the Atlantic will go to someone close to Fuad Char’s heart.

In 2021 he was released after a guarantee control judge established that the payments corresponding to the PAE were ordered by the auditor hired by the department.
The leader held the position in the departmental Education unit between 2016 and 2019.
