Former Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Rizal Ramli died at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta. His friend, Adhie Massardi, said that Rizal Ramli last appeared in public on the birthday of Coordinating Minister for Marves Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
“Two months ago, at dinner, the last time he appeared in public was Mr. LBP’s birthday,” said Adhie, as reported by BetweenTuesday (2/1/2024).
Adhie is a friend of Rizal Ramli who is both struggling as an activist. He said he was preparing to go to the funeral home in the Bangka area, South Jakarta.
“We both founded the Indonesian Rise Committee,” he said.
Luhut’s birthday took place on September 28 2023. At that time, Rizal Ramli was present at the launch of Luhut’s book at the Samisara Grand Ballroom, Sopo Del Tower Jakarta.
At that time Luhut thanked all the attendees and friends who had come. However, there was one special name he mentioned, namely the former Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Rizal Ramli.
“Thank you, Mr Rizal, you came even though we (often) fought,” said Luhut at that time.
This comment was immediately greeted with laughter from the audience present. Because, Rizal Ramli and Luhut are known to have a long history.
However, when the agenda came to the cake cutting session, Luhut and Rizal were seen shaking hands and exchanging laughs. Luhut even gave Rizal a piece of birthday cake that he cut himself.
